Alexander McQueen Close up

The theme of Alexander McQueen's how being "The Evolution of Man" he wanted to morph the models into "Land creatures and water aliens". He created a range of accessories in order to do so all of which resemble the animalistic theme.

The shoes are blunt and hide any evidence of toes, this emphasises the reptilian feel.

Thees shoes especially remind me of amour and scaffolding.



McQueen furthered his transformation by creating sculpture like hair designs. The thick plaiting and height given to the models hair resemble antenie. He also built up the models noses at the bridge to make them look even more animalistic.

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2010 show saw no boundaries. He played around with the idea of reptiles and skin pattern to form a show stopping catwalk.

McQueen has played around with photographs; enlarging, zooming and distorting, to create images to transfer onto material which he has constructed into bizarre shapes. His end product is a product which has a reptilian feel.

McQueen used sequins and enamel to further embellish his garments, thus creating a feel of armour and reminding the viewer of the shells of reptiles.

Matthew Williamson 2010

Matthew Williamson Spring/Summer 2010 was an array of colours and materials. He used many different techniques such as; boning, gathering and structured tailoring to create a vibrant and up-to date look. What specifically interested me were the array of materials Williamson used.

The most stand out choice was sequins, however Williamson did not spontaneously throw sequins onto his gowns but instead used them to create intricate patterns.

Williamson also used silk and an iridescent material throughout as one of the main base materials. This material reflected the light and created a sense of movement and fluidity in the more structured pieces due to the light reflections.

This one dress caught my attention as i feel that the way the dress has used gathering and a central bone,means it looks like the bone structure of a vertebrate- specifically that of a fish and snake.

Issa

Sequins have been fetured all over this years Atumn/Winter 2009 fashion shows and Issa is no exception. In contrast to Balmain's strucured and sharp tailoring Issa has created a more fluid and supple collection. In turn, this resmbles the free flowing movement of a fish.

This Dress looks like an enlarged section od scales.

Balmain In depth Analysis

I chose this dress as I felt that it encompasses the many attributes of a fish.




The over all mood of the collection is one of darkness, edginess and mystery.This could reflect the dark depths of the deep sea.



This particular dress consists of two main materials; sequins and raw silk. By using a metallic sliver sequin for the bottom its creates the image of a fishes sleek scales. Also by the part of dress that is made of sequins being wrapped around by the legs means that this ares moves a lot, thus meaning that the light reflects off of it and makes it look more like a moving fish.

The top bodice of the dress appears to be made of raw silk that has been structured.It appears to be quite rigid and strong. This part of the dress looks like the sharp angular fin of a fish due to the low empire line; as this creates two triangular shapes. The dark black contrasts well with the silver lower half which helps to emphasise the silver.

The last part of the dress is the flowing trail of silk. This part of the dress does not specifically resemble a fish but more so the movement of it and the movement of water. By using this means that the contrast between the structured bodice is heightened.

There are no accessories except for strong militant boots. These boots are very tough and hard which express durability. The model has very little to no make up on. This makes us think of nature which again creates the link to fish.

Scales

I drew a picture of some photos that i drew, by using biro and hairspray i was able to create the texture of a fish's scales.

Balmainia

I came across Balmain's Autumn/Winter 09 collection. Sequins and bold shoulders were used throughout and it was these that remined me of the scales of a fish.

The sharp angles of the shoulders resemble a fish's fins.

The suquin hareem pants resemble the fluid flowing motion of the way a fish moves and glides when in water.
